А именно, если вы как-то испортите Яву на вашем маке, вы ее скорее всего не сможете починить без переустановки всей системы.
Стандартный инстоллятор Явы просто посылает вас нафиг в конце процесса, Installation Failed, давай досвидания
Я сейчас на такое напоролся. Почитал в Сети - у людей тоже такие же проблемы
I have a similar problem. None of my app thats require Java work. I also can't load the Java preferences. when i open the preferences nothing happens. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall Java many times, tried to remove the java preferences (plists) and also logged in with another account. still nothing.
Но чуваку потом повезло в конце концов - НО КАКОЙ БЛИН ЦЕНОЙ!
I was finally able to solve this problem on my machine. I used the OSX 10.7 installer, and I reinstalled the OS right on top of my running system. I was prepared for all kinds of grief, but I was shocked to find that nothing seemed to mess up. All my accounts and settings were retained, and the only consequence was that I was able to install and run Java. It's been well behaved for months. To be clear (if I wasn't), it's the whole OS I reinstalled, not just Java. No guarantees, but if you decide to try it, I hope your luck is as good as mine.

i finally did the install. My Java is up and running, and it was so easy and painless. just ran the os x install from my inside my os x. took 30 minutes to install and now my java is working again.
А все потому, что в Макосе Джава намертво замонтирована внутрь системы, в отличие от Винды и Линуха где это просто папка с какими-то исполнимыми файлами
